The town of Newton Stewart is steeped in history where, as early as 1329, King Robert the Bruce, journey bound for St Ninian's shrine at Whithorn, visited the town, as well as distinguished traveller Mary Queen of Scots.
The local museums contain a wealth of historical treasures and give a fascinating glimpse into Galloway life in bygone days.
There is an excellent range of first-rate accommodation, from fine hotels or guest houses, bed and breakfast and self catering accommodation. Many hotels offer discounted green fees to their residents.
The town is easily accessible by road. It sits on the A75 Euro Route, thirty minutes east of Stranraer and Cairnryan ferry ports and only fifty minutes west of Dumfries. The town is only an hours drive south of Ayr.
